Representation

The main protagonist is Billy Hope, he is a stereotypical male as he is portrayed as being strong, masculine, dominant and assertive. This is usually the role of a male as they are seen to he strong and emotionally strong. He also challenges this stereotype as he cries when his daughter is taken away from him. This is a contrast to a typical male in films as they aren't seen to be emotional.

His wife plays a dominant female role as she is supporting her husband which is stereotypical as a female is treated as being inferior to men as they are the dominant ones. She is supportive of her husband as tries to be there for him at all times.

White males - seen to be dominant and in control always superior.

Villain - not white and is disliked, this is usually the role of someone who isn't white as it is stereotypical of a white male to be the hero.

Location is in America which reinforces the stereotype of a white male playing the role of the hero.

Dependency Theory

I use the media for entertainment purposes, I usually use it when I'm bored and go on websites such as Twitter, Snapchat and other websites. I feel that more people are dependent on the media but for entertainment purposes, the media is stilll crucial as it tells us about information that we need such as current affairs and news about our local area such as the weather. Our dependence on the media has changed, it has increased over the past 10 years and this is due to social media websites, applications and other ways to interact through the internet. People use more e-media that print of the TV itself which has also been increasing. I feel that article does support the theory as everyone gets their information or find the internet for their entertainment uses. As a result, the more time spent doing this means that they're more dependent.

Audience Theory

Hypodermic needle model

1) This article links to the hypodermic needle model as it is implying that when people play violent games they are more likely to duplicate what is going on in the game. For example playing these games will increase aggression. This is similar to the hypodermic needle model as it states that the media can inject information into our brains which could be dangerous. This is what the game seems to be doing as it is injecting violent images and increasing aggression which is a negative effect.

2) This links to the hypodermic needle model as it is indicating how the use of violent video games has a negative effect on someone and this is relates back to the model as it says the use of media injects information into our brains. Someone might criticise this front page as it may be seen to inject bad ideas into the audiences head which the hypodermic needle model suggests the media does.

Two-step flow model

1) The two-step flow model says the media isn't the only thing that influences us and social factors also play a role in this. I still think it's relevant as this can affect a person as they know whats right and wrong rather than seeing something in the media and reenacting what they've seen.

2) This YouTube blogger fits into the two-step flow model as he gives his opinions on the game he's playing and the two-step flow model says the two-step flow model instead suggests the audience are influenced by ‘opinion leaders and this YouTube blogger is an opinion leader.

3) This relates to the two-step flow model as the people tweeting influence people opinions as they get their point across meaning people are more inclined to get their point across as well.

4) Jamal Edwards fits into the two-step flow model as he uses the media to get across his views as he's an opinion leader being the owner of SBTV, this means he can get across his views easier as people will be influenced by him and are more likely to do the same.

Uses and Gratifications

1) Diversion - This is why people watch TV to escape from their problems as they find it an alternative from reality as they're trying to escape it. This clip fits in with this as the audience will feel like they're keeping their mind of reality and escaping.

Personal Relationships - Some people use the media as they might develop affection for a character as they've gotten use to seeing them so much they're emotionally attached and this is usually in TV series. Things such as Eastenders are ways for people to attach themselves to a character and are indulged in their life.

Personal Identity - People sometimes see themseleves in the media such as documentaries. Students may seem themselves in things such as 'Educating Yorkshire', this means they'll be watching this as they can relate to things that happen in their school and others.

Surveillance - People also use the media to find out information that's needed such as the news, weather and this is usually done through the news on TV or other media devices.

media awards

The first video that i thought was the best was labrat. This is because of the different shots that were taken and the voice over to introduce the character. The use of the mise-en-scene is used to highlight that this is in school making it successful as everything synergies together.

The second video that i thought was also successful was tribulations. This is because of the editing that was used in this clip, the use of the CCTV camera made the scene to be more powerful and realistic. The costumes used were also chosen well given the plot of the film was based on a kidnapping.

Young and Rubicam

The test said that I am an explorer. I agree with this as a young student I am finding new brands that are seen as socially desirable. This is to fit in and by trying new brands and exploring them it is beneficial but also a trend among students to be exploring new brands. I try brands such as Adidas, Nike, Levis and others to explore what is best for me and what I like. The brands aren't expensive as they would be if I was a succeeder.
